The Anticipation

I can’t decide which is my favorite thing.  The actual holiday or the anticipation of the holiday.  It seems the build up can be almost as exciting as the actual event.  So much to do.  So much to plan.  Such a busy time.  And then poof the day arrives and it is over.  Wow, how did that happen so fast.  The planning takes month and then we are done.  It is a toss up for me.

The Favorite Song

Sometimes I get stuck on a song that I can’t stop listening too.  The song this year that I can’t get enough of is “Carol of the Bells.”  It has quite a history.  You can read about it here.

Seeing the Bright Side

It is amazing what a flood will do for you.  It rushes in with no concern for what it touches.  All things in its path are fair game; although divine intervention does play a major role.  As much as the flood of water has no regard for what lies in its path divine intervention will step in and put His foot done.  And thankfully in the events of this past week He did just that.

So now as the demo begins, carpets up and all cabinets out we will start to see a new beginning.  It is a major do-over that wouldn’t have happened without such a flood.  Is it inconvenient; yes.  Is it loud; very.  Was the timing right; not at all, but then it never is.  But in the end we will have ten fresh new office spaces.  We will have new carpet, new paint, new furniture.  And this is the major plus, tons and tons and tons of stuff that has been collecting over time will no longer be!  It is a beautiful thing!!!

The Things Winter Brings

The coming of winter brings with it the obvious.  Cold weather and in my neck of the woods rain.  Which I mentioned yesterday as something I’m thankful for, and I am.  But there are other things that winter brings as well that are my favorites.  Like hot chocolate and winter food.  Like soup and stew and turkey.  Winter brings fun holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.   Yes, winter brings some of my favorite things.

Good Deal

I'm not much of a garage sale shopper or thrift store shopper.  Mostly I like my stuff new; not always but mostly.  Although I have seen some amazing purchases from that type of shopping.  I don't really like to shop sales either because of the "sale crowd mentality." All the pushing and shoving and the picked over stuff.  The one hot item to get you into the store is gone and I end up buying the not on sale stuff.  That's not to say I don't love a good bargain. I would just rather fall into it; that’s how I roll. 

So check out this recent find. I was going crazy at each new find.  Several of the serving pieces are Villeroy & Boch; that’s nice stuff.   I know you are thinking, “what pray tell does she need/want that stuff for?”  It was a bargain I tell ya and who knows you might find a plate of cookies with your name on it and you can keep the lovely plate or platter, because I’m a giver that way!  So I know you are wondering just how much I spent on this amazing find………the answer is below!

Home Early

I love to walk into a house with the aroma of dinner wafting through the air.  This doesn’t happen often.  In fact rarely.  Yesterday was an exception.  It went down like this.  I had to be at a training in Sacramento at 9:00 in the morning.  I left the house at 6:30 a.m. I was solo; which is not my favorite thing.  Generally I’m the sleeping passenger not the driver.  But I was excited over the fact that I would be home around 3:00 in the afternoon.  So I overlooked my solo-ness.  I was excited because I would be home early enough to fix a nice meal.  I did indeed get home just before 3:00 after a very long, torturous drive home listening to the Giants win. (They like to torture me!)  I prepared a wonderful meal of pork chops and rice.  Then I ran a quick errand so I could come home to the aroma.  It didn’t disappoint.  The aroma was just like I imagined it would be……..delectable!!

This Month

For me October was never thought of as a favorite month.  Because really what is to love about it?  But that was then and this is now.  And one of the reasons I love it is because some of my favorite people are blogging daily as part of the 31 for 21 Challenge.  And that shoots October right to the top of my favorite month list!  And if I’m really lucky maybe they will keep blogging in November and then December and then forever!!  That would be something!!

I will be spending the evening with these boys.  Clearly a family favorite thing to do.

Thursday

I prefer Christmas Eve over Christmas Day.  After all by 10:00 a.m. (or sooner in some changes) on Christmas Day it is all over but the clean up.  I know a little cynical but that is how I see it.  But with Christmas Eve on the other hand there is still that anticipation of things to come.  So back to Thursday.  It is my favorite day because it feels like Christmas Eve; full of anticipation for the yet to be enjoyed weekend.  I count Friday as the weekend even though I still work on Friday, it is just how I think because really what else is there to do on Friday but clean up or catch up or finish up the weeks work; you know sort of like Christmas Day.  By the way there are only 101 days until Christmas…….but who’s counting right!?!

Visitors

Living as far away from a city of any size as we do, does have its downside. Although we love where we live, the "remoteness" does tend to limit the number of visitors we have.  Some might say "lucky you" but there are times when visitors are a welcome change.  We love company. This summer we have been blessed to have some great out of town visitors; with some of our favorite people. But it is not just the out-of-towners that are a favorite. Another favorite is when our local friends pop by to visit. That doesn't happen much in today's busy world, but for me it is really my favorite thing when we have friends stop by to say Hi!  Those really are my favorite!!

Turkey!

Who loves turkey legs? 

Who loves to go to the fair? 

That would be me!  And what I really love is turkey legs at the fair!  That's why I go to the fair to have my annual turkey leg.  Then we take a stroll through the animals and sometimes we go to the rodeo and of course there's always lots of other more than interesting people and things to see.  But this Friday after I get my turkey leg we will then spend the evening enjoying the bluesy music of Jim Belushi and the Sacred Heart Band.  It will be a perfect evening!!
