There is Goodness

I love to read the newspaper.  Sometimes….well most of the time the news is not so good.  Lately I’ve been limiting my intake because of all the unfortunate human tragedy the news is filled with.  I need upbeat stuff.  I need good news stuff.  I need stuff that lifts me up.  Mostly I turn to the Ensign to fill my need for uplifting reading.  This article did just that.  It made me reflect on all the good thankful things in my life.  Then I found this blog.  I found it through the newspaper; I didn’t say I stopped reading it completely.  And nice to know that not every article in the newspaper leaves me feeling like a ton of bricks after reading it.
These two articles…….well all I can say is:
“I love the way they made me feel!”

Just Things

I just finished reading a book.  There were a couple of parts in the book that jumped off the page for me:

"Home is not a place; it's the people placed in your heart."
My heart is full!

"Things seem to happen when the timing is right, and I have faith that this will always be true."
Patience proves that!

"No matter what blessings may or may not come my way in the future, I realize that I have already had plenty.  God has been good to me."
My cup runneth over!

Impressions or Random Useful Thoughts

From time to time I’ll have impressions or thoughts come to me which require action on my part. Many times the impression is so simple that I find myself dismissing the thought knowing I can simply do it later. I’m not talking about life altering actions. I’ve had thoughts as simple as “go change the sheets in the back bedroom” or “you need to put a certain article of clothing away.” In both cases I knew I needed to take care of these things but in both cases I put off the task to take care of another day. In both cases I should have listened and taken care of those things when the impression came to me – in both cases I would have avoided “fall out” from not following through when the impression first came!!

Recently as I was rushing out the door for church I felt impressed to go check out a “clicking” noise coming from the kitchen. More than once I dismissed the impression thinking, “it is just the dishwasher you need to hurry you are going to be late!” But just as I was at the front door I heard the “click” again and again felt the impression to go check it out. My thought was okay-okay I hear you I will check it out. Well it wasn’t the dishwasher it was the panni grill which I had NOT unplugged. Maybe I am starting to listen to that still small voice………I hope so!!

Words to Live By

From time to time in my reading I come across messages which inspire me and which I like to share. This You Tube video is from a BYU Devotional, given on May 14 1996, by Elder F. Enzio Busche and is well worth sharing and listening to again and again. Enjoy!

Is it really 2009?

It seems like it has been forever since my last post. But after reading part of Elder Holland’s devotional he gave at BYU on Tuesday I’ve decided not to dwell on my deficiency .

Here is an excerpt from it:

“Counseling his audience to not dwell on days now gone or yearn vainly for yesterday, Elder Holland reminded "the past is to be learned from but not lived in," drawing upon experiences as one looks ahead. God doesn't care nearly as much about where you have been as he does about where you are, and with his help, where you are willing to go."

When the complete text becomes available I will for sure be looking it up I would love to read the whole talk. So many times I find myself looking back. He talked about Lot’s wife looking back and we know what kind of trouble that got her into. Don't want to go there.

So today I will look forward to all my tomorrows and all that they bring……no more looking back for me it is full steam ahead.

Optimism

We can learn from our leaders of the past. Thomas Edison’s great optimism gives us a quintessential example of welcoming disaster. On a December night in 1914, fire broke out in the film room of Thomas Edison’s laboratory. As his assets were going up in smoke, it would seem that this sixty-seven-year-old man’s spirit would certainly be crushed. Instead he saw the fire and shouted to his son, “Where’s Mom? Go get her! Tell her to get her friends! They’ll never see a fire like this again!” Later, he said,

“You can always make capital out of disaster.
We’ve just cleared out a bunch of old rubbish.
We’ll build bigger and better on the ruins.”
Thomas Edison could not control the circumstances. Rather than being heartbroken to see his life’s work go up in flames, he chose to welcome the opportunity to start over. Edison, known for his overwhelming optimism, is an inspiration for us today.
